ADSOVEX Adsorptive Carbon Treatment
Engineering Reference · Industrial & Process
Platform: AQUVEXIS™
Technology: ADSOVEX™
Engineering Relationships
- ADSOVEX™ uses application-qualified adsorptive carbon media for selected dissolved constituents and residual oxidants.
- Carbon media properties such as particle size, ash and iodine number characterize the media but do not by themselves prove capacity for every target contaminant.
- Breakthrough depends on target chemistry, concentration, competing constituents, contact conditions and media loading.
- Pretreatment and solids control can materially affect carbon-bed or carbon-element service behavior.
Components
- Activated-carbon media or element
- Housing or media-retention interface
- Upstream particulate pretreatment where required
- Inlet and outlet sampling points
Problems
- Selected dissolved-organic challenge
- Residual oxidant challenge
- Premature breakthrough
- Excessive media pressure drop
Failure Modes
- Media not matched to target chemistry
- Capacity exhausted
- Competing constituents consume capacity
- Particulate loading blinds the media
Symptoms
- Target constituent appears downstream
- Service interval shortens
- Pressure drop rises
- Outlet quality becomes unstable
Root Causes
- Feed chemistry changed
- Media capacity undersized
- Contact conditions insufficient
- Pretreatment ineffective
Diagnostic Methods
- Identify target constituent and inlet concentration.
- Review competing species and contact conditions.
- Trend target breakthrough with media duty.
- Inspect particulate loading and pressure drop.
Corrective Actions
- Correct upstream contamination where practical.
- Requalify carbon media against the target chemistry.
- Requalify media quantity and contact duty.
- Improve particulate pretreatment where required.
Maintenance Procedures
- Trend inlet/outlet target constituent.
- Track media duty and breakthrough.
- Inspect loading and flow distribution.
- Replace media using validated service criteria.
Operating Conditions
- Target constituent
- Inlet concentration
- Water chemistry
- Competing constituents
- Flow and contact conditions
- Temperature and pH
- Particulate loading
Standards
- ASTM D4607-14 — iodine number of activated carbon as a relative porosity indicator; it is not a universal measure of adsorption capacity for other species.
- ASTM D2862-16(2022) — particle-size distribution of granular activated carbon.
- ASTM D2866-11(2025) — total ash content of activated carbon.
- ISO 20468-1:2018 — general treatment-performance evaluation where ADSOVEX™ is used within a water-reuse system.
