RADIATORELIMFILTERSTHERMACORE™ · EW7COOLANT
Rust and scale particles held on the pleated mediaAdditive charge under the element, released gradually into the coolant (where an additive-bearing element is approved)Radiator, water pump, THERMACORE spin-on (in section), engine water jacket, returnConceptual illustration of an engine cooling circuit with a THERMACORE™ coolant spin-on. The water pump moves coolant from the radiator through the engine water jacket and back; the filter, shown in section, holds rust, scale and other particles on its pleated media. Where an additive-bearing element is approved for the system, an additive charge under the element dissolves gradually into the coolant; its chemistry must match the installed coolant. At service the spin-on is replaced. Illustrative simulation of how it works: a conceptual animation, not an engineering model or test result, and it shows no product data.

How to read this figure

  1. Radiator. The finned core between two tanks gives up the coolant's heat. Coolant leaves from the top outlet toward the pump and comes back through the return.
  2. Water pump. Driven by the engine, the pump keeps the coolant circulating through the filter and the engine.
  3. THERMACORE™ spin-on. Drawn in section, the pleated THERMACORE™ element holds the rust and scale particles. Moving the cursor sideways changes how much debris the coolant carries, and the readout shows the filter's load.
  4. Additive charge. The blue pellets under the element are the SCA charge, shown for the case where an additive-bearing element is approved. They shrink slowly and release wisps of additive into the coolant; the readout shows the remaining charge.
  5. Water jacket and cylinder bores. The coolant passes around the cylinders and through the head, where it picks up heat and where the inhibitors protect the liners.
  6. Return and service. The coolant returns to the radiator. Moving the cursor to the top, or pressing E, runs the service: the spin-on is replaced and the new one goes on clean, with a full additive charge.
