Dust held on the primary element's pleated mediaRestriction indicator: rises as the element loadsINTEKCORE housing (in section), MACROCORE primary and safety elements, cover, inlet and outlet ductsConceptual illustration of an engine air cleaner: an INTEKCORE™ housing with MACROCORE™ elements, shown in section. Dirty air enters the housing and passes through the primary element, whose pleated media holds the dust; it then passes the safety element and leaves clean for the engine. As the primary loads, restriction rises and the indicator shows it: service is decided by measured restriction. At service the cover and the primary element come off; the safety element stays in place and keeps the clean side closed. Seal, cover and duct integrity are part of the protection. Illustrative simulation of how it works: a conceptual animation, not an engineering model or test result, and it shows no product data.

  1. Inlet duct. Dirty air enters the housing through the duct on the left. Moving the cursor sideways changes how much dust the air carries.
  2. Housing in section. The front of the housing is cut away so the elements can be seen; only its back wall is drawn.
  3. MACROCORE™ primary element. The air crosses the pleated primary, which holds the dust on its pleats. The dust builds up as a layer on the upstream face.
  4. Safety element. Inside the primary, the safety element is the last barrier before the clean side.
  5. Outlet to the engine. Clean air leaves through the duct on the right toward the engine. Everything downstream of the elements has to stay sealed.
  6. Restriction indicator. On the head, the indicator rises as the primary loads; the readout shows the restriction as low, medium or high.
  7. Service. Moving the cursor to the top, or pressing E, runs the service: the cover comes down and the primary comes out, while the safety element stays in place and keeps the clean side closed. A new primary goes in and the restriction returns to low.

How to read this figure · INTEKCORE™

  1. Head. The cast head, bolted to the wall through its ears, carries the inlet, the outlet and the restriction indicator. It is the fixed top of the housing.
  2. Dirty side. Dirty air enters through the inlet duct on the left and fills the space around the primary element. Everything on this side may carry dust.
  3. Housing body. Drawn in section, with only its back wall shown, the housing keeps the elements in place and separates the dirty side from the clean side.
  4. Cover and latch. The cover closes the bottom of the housing and holds the primary up against the head, so the element seal is compressed as designed.
  5. Clean side and outlet. Clean air leaves through the outlet duct on the right toward the engine. Any opening on this side lets unfiltered air in.
  6. Restriction indicator. Its tap reads the clean side; it rises as the elements load and is only accurate if the clean side is sealed.
  7. Service. Moving the cursor to the top, or pressing E, runs the service: the cover and the primary come off, while the head, housing, ducts and the safety element stay in place and the clean side stays closed.
